Good Saturday morning church family.
Let's look at Matt. 20:28. "For even the Son of God came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Do you know who the happiest people in the world are? No, not the rich, or prettiest or even the smartest. The happiest people in the world are those who give their lives away. That's because the values of the kingdom of God are opposite of the world's values.
In God's kingdom, the most important person takes last place and serves everyone else.
Jesus tells us in Matt. 20:26 "Whoever wants to be the leader among you let him be your servant."
That's one reason why if you want to grow spiritually as a disciple of Jesus, you must learn to serve others. There is no exemption to that rule. Life is not about taking but about giving. In fact, there is little if any significance in life without it being attached to serving.
So, here it is: God wants us to serve so we can be more like Jesus.
Some of the most miserable people are those who are self-centered---living for themselves and what others can do for them. Don't be one of those kinds of people.
When Jesus came to earth. He already knew what he came to do. Serve and Give. That really defines the Christian life.
Here is what I am asking us to do: Find someone who needs something that you can provide, and joyfully give it to them. Make sure you do not have your hand out to receive something in return. Just give and let it be that!!! May God reward you if a reward is needed. Often, the service you rendered is reward enough. In fact, try to find someone who cannot give anything back to serve.
I am sure we all know someone who needs help. As you help them, do not make a big deal about it, if you do, you will have your reward. Just serve and let it be. It's great not to be the one in need of help. So, look around and extend your hand to someone. You will receive joy and even a little happiness to go along with it.
Blessings to you all.
