Jesus said to them,

“I am the bread of life: those who come to Me shall not hunger,

and those who believe in Me shall never thirst.”

John 6:35

Goooood morning dear sister!

How are you today? I hope that you are hungry! If you are, you have come to the right place! Wherever Jesus is, there is satisfaction! Hallelujah!

Jesus, the bread of life, satisfies our hunger for meaning or purpose in our lives! Our time is mostly filled with routine activities that need to be accomplished daily. We have a job to go to, meals to cook, homes to clean, clothes to wash and that dog poop in the yard isn’t going to pick  itself up!! Our work may be meaningful for the moment, but sooner or later, we have to repeat it all over again. In all this repetition, we may begin to ask ourselves, what is the meaning of life? What is the purpose of my life?

Jesus has an answer to those questions! He says, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” (John 6:29) Believing in Jesus is the work of God! This work will never perish, and neither will those who believe in Him! What could be more satisfying?

Jesus, the bread of life, satisfies our hunger for forgiveness. We all make mistakes, we have all fallen short despite our best efforts or intentions. Apart from Jesus, we are all prey to the miseries of this world. People flocked to Jesus while He walked the earth, hoping to find freedom from the bondage of sin or sickness. They hungered to be made whole, to be right with God.

Jesus responded with, “For the bread of God is He who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.” (John 6:33) And again, the work is the same! “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son, and believes in Him, may have eternal life, and I Myself will raise them up on the last day.’’ (John 6:40)

Finally, Jesus, the bread of life, also satisfies our hunger to live forever! The world says “Life is short” and, indeed it is if we are comparing our lifespan to the number of years this planet has been revolving around the sun. Even the scriptures describe our lifespan as but a mist or a fleeting vapor, yet God has set eternity into our hearts. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) Why would God do that unless He meant for us to live with Him forever?

And lo, here is the answer! Jesus has promised eternal life to those who do the work of believing in Him! Hmmm…. The same work! Believe in Him! Let’s have a John 3:16 moment…. Go ahead, read it out loud to yourself! For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish but have eternal life! It might take a little effort to memorize that and practice believing, but you’ll reap the benefit for all eternity!

We humans tend to tie ourselves up into all kinds of knots trying to justify ourselves before God. Sometimes we make an ordeal out following Him, but God tells us that our work for Him is to simply believe!

I can hear some of you thinking “there must be more to it than that…. that’s too easy!” But remember, dear sister, there’s a reason why God calls us His children, sometimes even “little children!”  Jesus says, “Truly, I say to you, that unless you change and become like children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 16:3)

As a natural parent instructs their child according to their age and ability, God instructs His children also. Some of the sweetest moments in our lives are to see our own children growing in satisfaction, peace and fulfillment! How much more so Our Father God, who satisfies our hunger with the true bread of life, His one and only Son!

Are you still hungry? Take some quiet time with your Abba and let Him satisfy your hunger for purpose, your hunger for forgiveness or your hunger for eternal life! There is room at the table for you!

God bless you today as you walk with Him with a grateful heart and a satisfied smile!

With love, your sister, Celeste
