The promise is for you and your children
and for all who are far off,
For all whom the Lord our God will call.
~ Acts 2:39
Good morning dear sister!
Hallelujah! The Lord has given us another day to live in His mercy and grace!
With the advent of Mother’s day approaching, I’ve been thinking a lot about the mother/child relationship. But, dear sister, if you have no children please don’t feel excluded, for you also have spiritual children and our Father’s principles and love apply to you and them as well!
A few days ago, in a conversation with another sister, we were commiserating about how we never stop worrying about our children. We worry about their spiritual state and their physical state, no matter what state they’re in!
We know we’re supposed to trust our Heavenly Father! After all, He has been faithful to us even when we were not faithful to Him! But it is our nature to worry. Our old sinful nature, not our renewed, born again nature.
When I worry, I am quietly reminded to look to God’s Word, His truth that has stood the test of time for thousands of years! So what is this promise He has made to us and all of our children?
A long time ago, somewhere between 1900-1800 BC, God made a promise to Abraham. God promised to ‘make him a great nation, give him the land of Canaan and in his seed, all the families of the earth will be blessed.’ (Gen 12:1-3),(Acts 4:25)
God kept His covenant with Abraham (despite his foibles) and all of his descendants were blessed through him. God was keeping His promise, but He had an even better promise to come!
Forty-two generations later, a Son, miraculously conceived by God, was born to a virgin daughter of the seed of Abraham. A Savior who would not only be a blessing to Abraham’s descendants, but of every nation, tribe and tongue! Jesus, the Son of Man, the Son of God!
Now, here we are, two thousand years later, still experiencing the promises and blessing of God through Jesus Christ! But think of it, forty-two years is a long time to wait for God’s fulfillment, let alone forty-two generations! Is God slow in keeping His promises? It may seem so to us, our natural life span is like a vapor, but God always makes provision for those who put their faith in Him!
God is looking for us to put our faith in Him and Him alone. The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6).
God not only promised to bless Abraham and his children, but to all who are far off. Thousands of years later, we are the ones who were in their distant future! We are not only far off from Abraham’s time, we were also once far off from God Himself.
All these epochs later, the Lord is still calling for each one, not willing that any should perish. We are the living proof of God’s promise to bless us when we seek Him! He called us when we were once ‘far off.’ You and I and our families are part of the ‘all who are far off’! Our children and children’s children are a part of the ‘all who are far off’!
Do you hear Him calling you, dear sister? Just as an earthly parent, can you feel His longing to have you safe in His arms? Just as an earthly parent, do you know that His plan for you is for blessing and not calamity? We do our best to be good parents, but we make mistakes and fall short more times than we care to think about. But God is perfect in all His ways. He has perfect love for you and the children He has given you.
Although it may seem that He is slow to answer, do not lose heart! Do not worry about the wayward child or wandering friend, but bring them before God’s throne of grace and intercede for them! Keep praying, being confident in God’s promises! Your intercession is vital! We are to pray for each other! Some faithful soul was praying for you at some time and you heard the Lord’s call! He will be faithful to call your children and all those you love who are far off too.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you faithful Moms out there!
With love, your sister, Celeste
