Say to wisdom, “You are my sister”,
and call understanding your intimate friend
~Proverbs 7:4
Good morning my sister and my friend!
Do you wonder how I can say that with such confidence? Because, if you are taking the time to read this, the Lord is inviting you into His family and His friendship right now! Being part of the family of God, you are my sister, and any friend of God is my friend too!
There is such power in that snippet of God’s word! Wisdom from God is as close as a big sister! Yes, big sisters can be bossy and annoying sometimes, although in my opinion as the big sister in my natural family, we have more of a shepherding than a bossing heart!
Calling Wisdom our sister indicates more than a distant acquaintance or a casual relationship. I daresay that once upon a time, we all had a very distant acquaintance with divine wisdom, more like a 15th cousin! In the Lord, a sister relationship implies a very close bond, even an intimate, she-knows-all-your-secrets kind of bond!
Cultivating a relationship with her will sow seeds for a fruitful, successful and satisfying life, which is pleasing to God! Wisdom promises that her fruit is better than the purest gold and her results surpass the value of the choicest silver! (Proverbs 8:19) Gaining divine wisdom is far more valuable than collecting natural wisdom or material wealth!
Practicing divine wisdom is beneficial in our natural lives as well as our spiritual lives! God often uses natural examples to teach us about His kingdom and His family. 1Corinthians 10:31 says, "So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." Caring for our bodies with a balance of good nutrition, activity and rest gives us the energy, a clear mind and the stamina that we need for the day. This is divine wisdom for our natural bodies.
Speaking of clear minds, Sister wisdom urges us to be proactive and vigilant gatekeepers of our eyes, ears and imaginations as well! Proverbs 3:7 & 8: "Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones".
This practical bit of wisdom reminds us to turn away from corruption and look to Him! God promises us the healing, freedom and refreshment we long for when we depend on Him rather than ourselves!
Living free of anxiety and stress is good for our bodies of flesh as well as our spirits! Another promise from our Abba; He will give perfect peace to those whose mind is fixed on Him! (Isaiah 26:3) Once again, wisdom that is good for both body and spirit!!
Though it may feel like an uphill battle to gain and hang onto wisdom, sister Wisdom doesn’t sit by herself on some lonely mountain top like a guru who speaks in riddles! Wisdom and her friend Understanding, will join us as intimate friends if we welcome them in! (Proverbs 6:21) Praise God!
Understanding can be likened to that intimate friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24) Our loving Father doesn’t bring us into this world only to try to figure out things on our own! He has given us His Word, the manual for navigating life! His Holy Spirit dwells in us as Teacher, that we may have understanding!
Wisdom and Understanding bring us into a relationship with the Lord that transcends the childlike faith with which we began. Our loving Father continues to teach us and lead us into a deeper, more profound relationship with Him every day, as long as we remain teachable and humble.
God wraps up this whole package with one simple declaration; “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”. (Proverbs 9:10) My dear sister, let us all call Wisdom our sister, and Understanding our intimate friend as we grow in the Lord together! Pray with me!
Father, thank you for Your words of life and truth! May Your seeds planted in us today take root and grow in us to a place of maturity and intimate fellowship with You! As children of Your family, may we grow up in obedience to You, joyfully living out Your plan for our good! Hallelujah! Amen!
Keep loving Jesus and moving forward!
With love, your sister, Celeste
