Behold, I stand at the door and knock;

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,

I will come in and dine with them

And they with Me.

~ Revelation 3:20

Good morning dear sister!

Someone is knocking at your door this morning! Do you hear His voice?

Last week I wrote to you about you calling on God; knocking on His door, so to speak. Be of good cheer! He’s heard the cry of your heart! In His faithfulness, He has answered or is already in the process of answering your call! (and, in your faithfulness, you are patiently waiting, right?)

It’s one thing to call upon God, in fact, it feels like the right thing, but somehow it feels a little bit different when He calls upon you! Yet, He stands at the door and knocks!

How many of us long to hear the voice of our Lord, desiring with all our heart to have certainty in His plan, only to be terrified or dismayed when that plan is revealed to us? Or only a piece of that plan? Soon, doubt sets in. Did I hear that right? Am I really the right person to carry this out?

If that’s true for you & me, we’re in good company! Think of Moses, who when visited by God, didn’t think he was able to accomplish the task set before him. Can you imagine telling the One who created you for a specific purpose that you aren’t capable? What chutzpah!

When God calls us to do something for Him, He has chosen the right person or persons for His specific purpose! He gives us what we need to accomplish His will. I hope it’s not too much of a stretch to say that, even in the Old Covenant, God knocked on Moses’ door and when invited in, ‘dined’ with him, nourishing him and strengthening him for the task God had ordained specifically for Him.

On the other hand, some people, when called upon by the Lord, go to the opposite extreme! Perhaps it’s self-confidence, seems like common-sense or just plain zeal, but they attempt to accomplish God’s will all by themselves, according to their own strengths and standards.

In the New Covenant, The Pharisee of Pharisees, Paul, went forth in great zeal to accomplish what He thought was the call of the Lord. His horse came to a sudden stop one day when Jesus knocked on his door! After answering that knock to come and dine with Him, Paul’s ears were finally attuned to His Lord’s invitation and instruction! He repented and the Lord was able to do great and mighty things through His humbled servant!

So, I get the knocking part, but what about the dining part?

In Jesus’ day, sharing a meal was not just for fellowship, but a sign of trust, peace and relationship. Covenants were sealed and celebrated with a shared meal. We do that even today with wedding receptions, baptisms, birthdays and anniversaries! We take meals to people who are in need, sick or mourning. Sometimes we go out just to share a meal with a friend! Somehow, food just brings people together!

We often think of our Abba as the One who fills our needs, but wow, He wants to sit with us and hear about our day, our hopes and dreams! Infinitely more amazing, He wants to share His hopes and plans with us too! We sit down and have a spiritual meal that lifts our spirits and satisfies our souls! Praise God!

The verse above is from the book of Revelation; a glimpse of time to come. Sharing meals together is a foreshadowing of the joyous feast we will all celebrate together with our Lord in His kingdom someday! Then, we will never doubt, we will never be uncertain of who we are while dining with all the saints and especially our Lord and King! What a glorious time that will be!

Won’t we be so glad, humbled and thankful to have been a part of His plan for others while we are here in this time and in this place?

Have you heard the knocking of the Lord on your door recently, dear sister? Have you invited Him in so that He may dine with you?

I hope that you will pray with me:

Dear Abba, You are so kind and faithful! You are patient with us when we dig our heels in and want our own way in our own time. Please forgive us as we repent of our unbelief, our fears and our own willfulness. We pray that Your will be done in our lives! Remind us to trust in You when we can’t see any progress or an end. Come dine with us so that we may be strengthened and encouraged, we invite you in dear Jesus! Amen

God bless you dear sister! Keep loving Jesus and moving forward!

With love, love, love, your sister, Celeste
