Call to Me, and I will answer you,
and I will tell you great and mighty things,
which you do not know.
~ Jeremiah 33:3
Hello my dear sister!
Do you ever have questions that you have no answer for? Those of us who have been around little children are often stumped by some of the profound questions rolling around in their inquisitive minds. How far is up? Why is the sky blue? Why can’t I see God?
I don’t know how far is up or even why the sky is blue and, while it’s difficult to explain why we can’t see God, we can learn about God and “see” Him through His Word. In fact, we see our God in all His terrifying power, His glorious holiness, His majesty and dominion filling the pages of Scripture!
We also see His love, mercy and grace! We see His kindness, forbearance and peace. Sometimes we see His disappointment, anger and lament.
Do you know anyone like that? Do you see yourself in that description? We are created in the image of God, so we understand these attributes, yet God is so far above us we rightfully fear His power, His majesty and His holiness. How can He even approach us without crushing us? No wonder men fell as if dead in the glory of His presence!
So, The Lord Almighty, the Eternal One, comes to us in His Word. In His Word He writes us an invitation to call upon Him! He encourages us to approach Him by promising to answer! He coaxes us along with new revelations as we come closer to Him! And just so that we don’t forget, He has written it down!
When we want to get to know someone we spend time with them. We exchange conversation and listen to them. Maybe we will do something together. We make it a priority to pay attention to them! Maybe we will even read a book about them!
The same is true with our relationship with God! If we want our relationship to grow, we need to spend more time with Him! More time in His Word! Less talking to Him and more listening for Him! Then, taking his advice and acting on it, proving that He means what He says! “Words weren’t written in the Bible just to fill the pages! Every word of God is truth!”*
We have so many opportunities all day long to get to know Him better! It’s not always hours of Bible study or prayer, but just hanging out together like a child asking for knowledge! We can just pop a question to the Lord and keep moving as we wait for His answer. Sometimes He’ll answer right away, sometimes after a while and sometimes He answers even before you’ve asked! That's a relationship! (In fact, I love it when that happens! It makes me laugh and I believe that my Father loves to hear me laugh! )
When looking for answers to life’s questions, I love how Sister Mattie so aptly said in her Bible study this week, “Call the Lord before you call your friends!”. Keep it simple, as a trusting child, because that’s who and Whose you are!
Call upon the Lord today, and tell someone of the great and mighty thing of which you did not know when He answers! I will do the same and tell you about it next week! Deal?
Keep loving Jesus and moving forward!
With much love, your sister, Celeste
