‘You shall worship the Lord your God
And serve Him only.’
~ Luke 4:8
Good morning dear sister!
The Lord your God has given you another day! He must have some good plans for you!
I’ve been thinking about the days God gives us and the time God gives us and what exactly do we sisters do with those days and times. With our busy lives of being Proverbs 31 women; care taking, house cleaning, cooking, feeding, sewing, bargaining, investing, laughing at the future and cleaning some more, how can one worship and serve God only in the midst of all that?
That’s a good question, but the truth is that there really isn’t a ‘time’ to worship God. Sometimes we make it sound like worship is a thing we do. But if worship is something we do, in order to fulfill the command to worship God only and serve Him only, we would be able to do nothing else! Obviously, as Proverbs 31 women, we do a lot of other stuff!
So what is Jesus talking about when He says to worship and serve the Lord your God only? How do we live like that?
Paul, in Ephesians 4 urges us to walk in the calling we have received. We are chosen and called by God to live in a way that is worthy of His holy call upon us! That is, to be humble and gentle. To be patient and bear with one another in love. To promote unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Apart from God, these traits are not natural to most people, but as God pours out His Spirit, our obedience to His Word comes back to Him in the form of worship! In other words, when you are humble, gentle, patient & unifying, you are worshipping the Lord your God! Worship is a matter of our heart’s attitude toward God.
1Corinthians 10 says, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God! We’re all pretty accustomed to praying & giving thanks before a meal, which is worship pleasing to God, but what about the “whatever you do” part?
The apostle Paul has a great answer to “whatever you do” in his letter to the Colossians.
He writes, “Whatever you do, work with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” (Col 3:23)
When our attitude is one of giving the very best we can, we are worshipping the Lord because we are doing it as if for Him! Yes, that means that even working at our everyday jobs, whatever they may be, and doing it heartily to His glory. That is worship!
And even better, Paul goes on to say, ‘you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward! It is the Lord Christ you are serving!’ (Col 3:24) Wow! If you think having a huge savings account might be nice, just imagine what your inheritance from the Lord might be worth! And in the meantime, your heart and spirit is lifted up because your work is no longer a burden, it is worship!
Our attitudes and perceptions determine whether we have a good day or a bad day. If we say, well, I’ll just have a positive attitude no matter what, we will eventually be tested beyond our limit and fail. We just aren't equipped to get through this life in our own strength!
But God….. when we offer Him our very best in all that we do for Him, He returns the good fruit of peace, joy, fulfillment and satisfaction back to us. We live happier lives with a lot less stress. And then, on top of that, He blesses us with an inheritance that no other can provide for all eternity!
Let’s give thanks to Him together! Pray with me:
Thank you Father, for making a way to turn even the drudgery of life into a life-fulfilling experience, all because we are serving You by serving others! Put Your song in our hearts as we go about our days! Bring Your word to our remembrance when we come upon a snag and, most of all, teach us how we can worship You in every circumstance, every deed, every word. We love you Lord!
Keep loving Jesus with your best!
With love, your sister, Celeste
