Whoever has will be given more,
and they will have an abundance.
Whoever does not have,
even what they have will be taken from them.
~Matthew 13:12
Good morning dear Sister!
Do you have any idea of the blessings and grace God wants to pour out on you this day?
Most times I awake eagerly anticipating what God has on His agenda for me, but not always. Perhaps I’m bummed about an issue in my family or have to do something I’m dreading. Maybe I just had a bad dream.
Usually I come to my senses fairly quickly, knowing that, since God woke me up, He will give me what I need for this day! He always does, and He always will! Not only that, He promises to keep adding to our spiritual treasure even more as we grow!
It is encouraging to read the first part of Jesus’ words to His disciples, “Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance”! That is good news indeed!
But what about His next sentence? “Whoever does not have, even what (little) they have will be taken from them”. Uh oh. What does that mean?
In Matthew’s gospel record, Jesus had been preaching to the local crowds on the shores of Galilee. Even His disciples, whom He called friends, were confused about His choice to speak in parables! They asked Him to explain, and their understanding was opened as His words sunk in.
God’s Word is always worth pondering and digging into! The more we search the Scriptures, the more spiritually satisfied we become! To those who are hungry for God, He gives meat! For those who are thirsty for God, He gives living water! For those who are yearning to know Him better, He will reveal Himself more and more!
This may seem as plain as day to one who is seeking and plumbing the depths of God’s love, grace and mercy, but God’s treasures remain hidden from the mind and heart that is not open to Him or interested in Him.
Is God being mean? Is He unfair? May it never be!
Did you ever try to make a friend with someone who is just not interested in being friends with you? Perhaps you lack common interests or you just don’t seem to click. Maybe they don’t like your lifestyle or your ethics.
Wouldn’t it be a mercy to stop pestering them? To stop making them feel uncomfortable by your unwillingness to let them be? We eventually stop trying to force a relationship and move on to someone who is more open to our friendship.
Those are natural examples, but it’s true in the spiritual as well. As we pursue God, He brings us deeper and deeper into His truth! We may not always understand His way, but we learn to trust Him and allow Him to lead us! Our confidence in Him grows. Our love for Him grows! Our communion with Him grows! That tiny seed He planted in us begins to grow and bear more and more fruit!
Yet, the opposite is also spiritually true. Although He is the infinite Almighty God, He does not cross our boundaries. When we put up walls, set limits or disobey, we risk losing what God has given us from the very beginning….. a desire to know Him and to be known by Him. (Gal. 4:9)
Can you imagine being one in the crowd listening to Jesus in person, yet not really hearing Him? Many walked away, perhaps bragging that they had seen the Lord, but not letting His words touch their minds or hearts.
My beloved sister, take care that your spiritual ears are open to His voice!
Do not risk having your ears plugged with the troubles or pleasures of this world. God has so much more for you than you can think or imagine!
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is in work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen! (Eph 3:20)
Keep loving Jesus and moving forward!
With love, your sister, Celeste
