I shall remember the deeds of the Lord,
Surely I will remember Thy wonders of old.
I will meditate on all Thy work, and muse on Thy deeds.
Thy way, O God, is holy;
What god is great like our God?
~ Psalm 77:11-13
Good morning my beloved sister!
Pastor G. spent a lot of sweat last Sunday reminding us of God’s promise in Romans 8:28; “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
If we’re honest with ourselves, we might question ‘all things’, especially if we’re going through a difficult time at the moment. This is the response of our flesh, not God’s Holy Spirit within us. Before you think I’m being too hard on you, let’s consider others who wrestled with how all things work together for good.
How about those disciples that spent three years living day & night with Jesus, ministering alongside Him or in His Name? The Father Himself revealed the identity of Jesus to Peter, Jesus Himself even told the disciples plainly what the plan of His Father was for Him. Yet, when God’s plan did not unfold according to their plan and worse yet, ended in the death of Him who had the words of eternal life, Peter and the rest of the disciples were devastated. They scattered without any hope for the future, in fact, hiding in fear of their own lives. They did not see how this plan worked out for any good.
God has a plan for good for each of His children, but like the disciples, we don’t always understand it or have an explanation in the moment. Sometimes the revelation seems just the opposite of what we were expecting! Huh?
When my plans, which I think are the Lord’s plans, don’t go the way I expect, I have to remind myself of God’s faithfulness to me in the past. I need to trust that He will continue to unfold His good plan for my life as I wait on Him. I don’t mean to make it sound easy, because it’s not. Sometimes we experience growing pains; learning from our mistakes is a healthy form of growth!
From my own experience, it seems that when I get comfortable in a new faith level, my loving and ever observant Father puts another challenge in my path! But isn’t that how we grow? A child progresses from challenge to challenge physically, mentally, emotionally. It makes sense that spiritually, a child of God grows from faith to faith, strength to strength, glory to glory!
Remembering the deeds of the Lord in your own life will be an encouragement when you are perplexed about God’s good plan for you. Remember what He has done for you! Meditate on His work! This is the example the Psalmist has set before us!
Keep waiting in hope and faith. Don’t be like Jesus’ own disciples, who were disheartened and fearful because they didn’t remember the promises of the Father’s plan. Remind yourself of God’s goodness so that you may endure!
If you feel this applies to you, feel free to pray with me:
“Oh Lord, I lament that I am a person of short memory! How quickly I forget your lovingkindness and faithfulness. Technology has replaced memory. I am more familiar with my phone than my Bible. I REPENT of that, oh Lord! Let me hide your Word in my heart, that I may not sin against You!
As I open Your Word, please open my understanding, even as Jesus opened the understanding of His disciples after His resurrection. Thank you for the guidance of your Holy Spirit! As I meditate on Your goodness, please bring to my memory all the mercy, grace, faithfulness and love You have shown me throughout my life that I might rest in faith and trust in You. No matter what. In Jesus’ Name, amen!"
If you prayed with me, encourage my soul by letting me know!
Let me know how your struggle is going and we can pray for each other! That’s what sisters are for!
With love, your sister, Celeste
